For this specific project, designID was tasked with architecturally processing the building volume of a three-story building located on a plot in the urban fabric of Gerakas, Attica. Due to the size and location of the plot, the building initially appeared to feel cramped within the space.
In order to create a more airy and expansive feeling for both the building and the viewer facing it from the street, one of the volumes, extending from the ground floor to the third floor, was designed to end in a sloping, boxed roof with clear geometric elements, making these elements visible even from street level. The remaining building volume is recessed, but is visually unified with the projecting volume through linear iron elements – railings on the parapets of the balconies.
On the top floor, a sloping glass roof was created, covering the outdoor living area of the third floor, and visually unifying with the rest of the building through a narrow, elongated canopy with an iron frame and glass infill. This structure terminates in an iron vertical element, continuing from the vertical concrete element on the balcony of the second floor.
The ground floor level, which also serves as the parking area, was designed with a pergola consisting of horizontal and vertical elements supported by iron supports and glass infills. This construction offers visual continuity with the building and extends the structure towards the street, alleviating its constrained position on the plot and creating a sense of expansion towards the outdoor space for the ground floor user.
